The Swimmer's Safety Belt®

SeaPro Editorial Comments on the
BOAT U.S. January-March, 2004 article
on approved belt packs:

ITEM #1. The Swimmer's Safety Belt® Model SSB25 is the only approved inflatable life vest that has the Blue Fin Safety Inflator,» This CO2 inflator should not be confused with any other CO2 cylinder signaling inflator because it's the only inflator that's fully automatic, which makes The Swimmer's Safety Belt® the safest inflatable life vest in the world. This new inflator is a major breakthrough in water safety that can significantly reduce a potential inflation failure rate as high as 25% in other inflatable life vests that do not have this device (see CNN Special Report, SeaPro home page, and safetyinflator), but this significant advantage over all other approved inflatable life vests is not mentioned in this article. This state of the art inflator costs over twice as much as the non-automatic CO2 cylinder signaling inflator found on all other approved inflatable PFDs, and the CO2 cylinder risks posed by the absence of this device was the main reason that for years the U.S. Coast Guard refused to approved any inflatable PFDs.

The Swimmer's Safety Belt® is therefore the only USCG approved inflatable PFD in the top-performing Type III category with an automatic CO2 cylinder signaling inflator. All other approved inflatable life vests do not have The Blue Fin CO2 Safety Inflator» and are in the Type V special, restricted use category. These PFDs have traditional inflators, none of which has a fully automatic CO2 cylinder signaling inflator feature like The Blue Fin CO2 Safety Inflator».

Item #2: The Swimmer's Safety Belt® is shown worn several times, but in several of the photos it is improperly donned: the belt waist strap is not adjusted snugly--it's loose and sloppy looking, which gives The Swimmer's Safety Belt® an unattractive appearance, even though each Belt is sold with a sticker that warns: NO LOOSE WAIST STRAP. SNUG STRAP = SLIM FIT.

A picture is worth a thousand words! To see how the Model SSB25 Swimmer's Safety Belt® looks when properly donned (worn), look at the photos of large and small male and female models who are wearing this model on the seapromarine.com home page--and also note the many photo model comparisons of Model SSB25 one-on-one with all other approved life vests.

ITEM #3. The BOAT U.S. article states that the cost of The Swimmer's Safety Belt® rearming kit is $25 for a three pack. This is incorrect. The cost of a single rearming kit for Model SSB25 is only $5, about the cost of a single charged CO2 cylinder alone. This low cost represents another significant edge for The Swimmer's Safety Belt® over all other inflatable life vests because it's less than half the cost of any other reaming kit, requires no extra rearming components other than a fully charged CO2 cylinder, allows the wearer to cost-effectively practice with the PFD and in the long term eliminates a cost for rearming kits that could run so high that they might actually exceed the cost of the life vest itself!

ITEM #4. The BOAT U.S. water tests reveal that inflated belt packs will keep an unconscious wearer's face out of the water in almost every test (except for one belt pack), while a Type II or Type III foam jacket will not. The author comments, "This was one of the most impressive life-saving discoveries of our testing."

This discovery underscores the following very important fact that may surprise many boaters: Any approved inflatable life vest, which includes belt packs (with the possible exception of one) will do a better job keeping an unconscious user's head out of the water than the very popular Type II or Type III foam life jackets!

--These are only some of the reasons that The Swimmer's Safety Belt® is the safest, finest life vest in the world!

The Moral to the Story

In 1904 there were two kinds of people:
  1. Those who would continue to ride a horse until everyone else bought an automobile, and
  2. Those who bought an automobile.
In 2004 there are two kinds of people:
  1. Those who will continue to use another life vest until everyone else buys The Swimmer's Safety Belt®, and
  2. Those who buy The Swimmer's Safety Belt®.
The moral to the story:
Get off your horse and buy
The Swimmer's Safety Belt®.
